Therefore, we realize that a detailed delivery process is needed to ensure that your cake arrives in pristine condition. Our shipping/packaging serves as an example of our commitment to excellence!
Due to the perishable nature of our cakes, during the summer months we will require that items ordered be shipped NEXT DAY AIR, utilizing Fed Ex, in order to ensure freshness and your satisfaction. However, as temperatures drop throughout the country during the fall, winter and early spring months, we offer 2 day air. However, we strongly encourage when shipping to or from a location where the temperature is 65 degrees or higher that you utilize our NEXT DAY AIR option.

1. May I order my Smith Island Cake in advance?
Yes.
Original Smith Island Cake Company would be happy to take your cake order in advance and highly recommend this during the holiday season!
2. How are your cakes kept cold during shipping?
To maintain the quality and taste of your gourmet cake, we use dry ice in the shipping of our products. GREAT CAUTION SHOULD BE MAINTAINED WHEN HANDLING DRY ICE! Instructions for safely unpacking your cake will be included prior to opening.
3. How do you ship your cakes?
During the summer months, we require FED EX NEXT DAY AIR for all cakes to ensure quality delivery of your perishable cakes. However, during the fall, winter and early spring months, we offer the option of FED EX 2 DAY AIR. However, we strongly encourage when shipping to or from a location where the temperature is 65 degrees or higher that you utilize our NEXT DAY AIR option. Shipping rates vary according to geographic location and weight of items.
4. When will Original Smith Island Cake Company ship my order?
On-line orders will automatically be processed and shipped on the next available business day unless you specify a specific future delivery date.
PLEASE NOTE: Any on-line orders placed after 12:00 pm will be processed the next business day and be fulfilled and shipped the following business day. We do not ship out any items on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. If you plan to utilize the 2 DAY SHIPPING OPTION, any order placed after 12:00 pm on Wednesday and before 12pm on Sunday, will be shipped out on Monday via Fed Ex 2 Day Service. If you utilize the FED EX NEXT DAY service, we can ship on Thursdays, provided your order is placed by 12:00 pm on Thursday.
5. If I place an order over the internet on the weekend, when can I expect Original Smith Island Cake Company to process the order?
We process weekend orders and ship on Monday. (Please note: We are closed for nationally recognized holidays.)
6. Does someone need to be present when the package is delivered?
For the convenience of our customers,
Original Smith Island Cake Company does not require a signature. It is highly suggested that due to the perishable nature of the products that the customer arrange for someone to be present at delivery. If you or the recipient are not present when delivery is attempted, we cannot be responsible for the condition of your gourmet product , as it may be left in weather conditions detrimental to the cake.
7. Can I ship my Original Smith Island Cake to a PO Box?
We do not ship to PO Boxes, because we want your Smith Island Cake to arrive in peak, delicious condition! Due to the perishable nature of our products, we need to have a street address to ensure delivery. We also recommend shipping to an address where someone is home to accept the delivery to prevent packages from being left out all day.
8. Where should I have my Smith Island Cake order delivered?
We strongly recommend sending all shipments to a business location in ensure prompt attention, however we will deliver to a residential address. We encourage that someone be present when the package is delivered.
9. Do you ship internationally?
We ship to the 48 contiguous United States. We are unable to ship internationally at this time.
We take great care and expertise when packaging your gourmet dessert, however, occasionally our desserts may become damaged during shipping. Please contact us immediately (within 24 hours) to discuss the replacement of the damaged product. Please call (877)-760-2253 between the hours of 8am and 2pm, and ask to speak to our shipping supervisor.
SALES TAX
We do not charge sales tax if shipped outside the state of Maryland. Orders shipped within Maryland will be charged a 6% Tax.
